The Promises of God

16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.
17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?
18 But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.
19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.
20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Paul had earlier promised the Corinthian church that He would visit them, but had to change his plans. Some of Paul's critics cashed upon his inability to fulfil the promise to discredit him as someone on whose word people cannot rely. He defended himself that he was not a person who would say no when he meant yes. There are many Christians today, on whose word you cannot rely. Can people depend on your word? Paul went on to aver that the gospel of Jesus Christ, which he preached, and the promises of God are infallible. You can wholly rely on God's promises of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
Point of Emphasis: God's promises stand unchangeable , as a sure anchor for our souls.
