The promise to Abraham of a Seed, through whom the children of Israel would be blessed. They expected him to come and overthrow the enemies, who had subjugated them and used as slaves. They looked forward to a conquering Messiah, who would overthrow the armies of the enemy. Just as many do in the church today, they overlooked the internal enemy, SIN, which had taken them captive and alienated them from God. When Jesus came as the "Lamb Of God," they rejected Him because they were blindfolded by sin. Paul wished there could be something he could do or a price he could pay, to open their eyes to see that in Jesus alone is salvation.
Point of Emphasis: Do not allow sin to blindfold you as to miss eternal salvation.
